In Japan, kiri wood (Paulownia) has long been used to safeguard what is precious: tea boxes, fine furniture, kimono chests, and heirloom items passed down through generations. Its exceptional qualities, lightweight structure, natural humidity control, and strong resistance to insects, made it an indispensable material for daily life and ceremonial culture.
As early as the Nara period (710–784 CE), kiri tea boxes were used to transport tea leaves, gradually evolving alongside the refinement of tea culture nurtured by aristocrats and samurai. Over time, their beauty and functionality elevated them beyond simple storage, establishing kiri boxes as treasured objects in their own right.
Your Tea draws inspiration from the deep roots of this tradition while infusing it with new meaning. The form of DOGÜ MAM is inspired by dogū, ancient clay figures believed for nearly 16,000 years to embody gods of fertility, abundance, and protection.
By bringing this symbolism into contemporary design, DOGÜ MAM transforms tea from a simple practice into an inner ritual — one that awakens the senses, invites reflection, and reconnects us with the sacred lineage of Japanese craftsmanship.
